Terms of Service
Please read these Terms carefully before using Watabook. By downloading, installing, or using the app, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use Watabook.
Contents
1. Acceptance of Terms
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a legally binding agreement between you (“you”, “User”) and DevAndRepair (“we”, “us”), the developer of Watabook, governing your access to and use of the Watabook mobile application (the “App”). By installing or using the App you confirm you are old enough to accept these Terms in your country of residence and that you have read, understood, and agree to them and to our Privacy Policy.
2. Description of Service
Watabook is a car-maintenance logbook. It stores your vehicles, service and fuel entries, reminders and documents locally on your device, and offers an offline reference dictionary of OBD-II fault codes and dashboard warning lights. An optional “Explain simply” feature sends a fault code to our AI processing service for a plain-language explanation (see §6 and §7).
Watabook is a reference and record-keeping tool. It is not a diagnostic instrument, does not connect to your vehicle, and does not replace inspection or repair by a qualified mechanic.
3. No Account, Your Data
- Watabook has no account and no sign-in. There is nothing for us to authenticate, suspend, or recover on your behalf.
- Everything you enter is stored locally on your device, as described in our Privacy Policy. We hold no copy of it.
- You are responsible for your own device's security (passcode, backups) — losing or resetting your device without a backup means losing your Watabook data, since we cannot restore what we never had.
- You can export everything as CSV at any time, and uninstalling the App permanently deletes its data from your device.
4. Subscriptions & In-App Purchases
Watabook Pro is offered as an auto-renewing monthly or yearly subscription, or as a one-time lifetime purchase. All payments are processed by Apple's App Store or Google Play, never by us directly — we never see or store your payment details.
- Free trial: where offered, an auto-renewing subscription begins with a free trial period; unless you cancel before it ends, it converts to a paid subscription automatically.
- Auto-renewal: monthly and yearly subscriptions renew automatically at the price shown at purchase until you cancel. Manage or cancel a subscription through your Apple ID or Google Play account settings — not within the app, since we have no billing panel of our own.
- Lifetime: a one-time purchase that unlocks Pro features for as long as the App exists and continues to support it, tied to your Apple ID or Google account, not to a Watabook account (there is none).
- Refunds: handled entirely by Apple or Google under their own refund policies. We cannot issue a refund directly.
- Restore purchases: reinstalling the App or moving to a new device restores your entitlement automatically through your Apple ID / Google account — no login required.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- reverse-engineer, decompile, or tamper with the App beyond what your platform's terms permit;
- use the “Explain simply” feature to submit anything other than a genuine OBD-II fault code and a good-faith follow-up question;
- attempt to circumvent the App's rate limits, entitlement checks, or free-tier limits;
- use the App for any unlawful purpose.
6. Not a Diagnosis — Safety Disclaimer
Every fault-code explanation — whether from the built-in offline dictionary or the AI “explain simply” feature — is general information, not a diagnosis. It does not inspect your vehicle. Always have a safety-critical fault checked by a qualified mechanic before continuing to drive.
Likely causes, cost ranges, DIY suitability, and “can I keep driving?” guidance are estimates meant to help you make a sensible next step, not a substitute for professional inspection. Watabook and DevAndRepair are not liable for any decision made, or damage, injury, or loss arising from reliance on this information — see §10.
7. Third-Party Services
The App relies on services we do not control, each governed by its own terms:
- The offline fault-code dictionary is built on data from the open-source DTC-Database project (MIT licence), and machine-translated into the App's other languages.
- “Explain simply” is generated by Google Gemini, called through our own processing service — the App never holds a key to it directly.
- VIN decoding uses the U.S. NHTSA's free, public vPIC database.
- Subscriptions are billed by Apple / Google and managed through RevenueCat.
We are not responsible for the availability or accuracy of these third-party services.
8. Intellectual Property
The Watabook app, its design, and its original content are owned by DevAndRepair. You may not copy, reproduce, or create derivative works from the App itself. You retain full ownership of the data you enter (vehicle details, notes, photos, documents); we claim no rights to it, and since it never leaves your device, we couldn't use it even if we wanted to.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
The App is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement, to the maximum extent permitted by law.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, DevAndRepair's total liability arising from your use of the App shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or €20, whichever is greater. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including any arising from a vehicle repair decision made using information from the App.
11. Termination
You may stop using the App and uninstall it at any time; doing so deletes its local data (see §3). We may withdraw the App from the App Store or Google Play, or discontinue a feature, at our discretion; where reasonably possible we will give notice through the app-store listing or this page.
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the law of the jurisdiction in which DevAndRepair operates, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will first be addressed by good-faith negotiation; if unresolved, it will be submitted to the competent courts of that jurisdiction. If a provision of these Terms is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
13. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The “last updated” date above will change, and the new version will be published here. Continuing to use the App after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
